# Hīr Wāris Shāh across manuscripts
**Presenter**: [[Anne Murphy]] & [[Tohid Ahmad Chattha]] (joint paper)
**Session**: [[Session 3. Punjabi Textual & Performative Networks]]
**Abstract**: This presentation will explore the results of a comparative study of the oldest available manuscripts for Wāris Shāh's mid-eighteenth century Punjabi-language classic, Hīr. Drawing on manuscripts in both Gurmukhi (from the Bhasha Vibhag Library, Patiala) and Shahmukhi (from the National Museum of Pakistan, Karachi and the Lahore Public Library), the essay will consider what the variations tell us about the development of the text over time.
